For most small and midsized businesses, Microsoft Office is the standard for productivity applications. So the arrival of Microsoft 2010, which is now going into beta for release next year, is big news.

Indeed, the new version brings lots of upgrades big and small. After testing beta version for several weeks, it's clear that Office 2010 has plenty of features and enhancements of interest to SMBs -- and this slideshow will highlight more than a dozen of them.

Unfortunately for Microsoft, tha may no longer be the issue. Today's question is whether Microsoft is building the world's best battleship at the dawn of the age of the aircraft carrier.

That is, even as it makes Office 2010 by the far the most robust office suite on the market -- and begins to experiment with online features and sharing -- is that really what SMBs are looking for?

Are these features compelling enough to keep SMBs spending on a high-end office suite? Or do small and midsize companies just want something good enough, cheap enough, and compatible enough to do the jobs they need?

Time will tell, but in the meantime check out our look at some of the most important SMB-related features in the 2 (out of 5) versions of Office 2010 that Microsoft is pitching to small and midsize businesses:

Microsoft Home And Office 2010 includes Excel 2010, Outlook 2010, PowerPoint, Word, and OneNote

Microsoft Office Professional 2010 adds Access and Publisher.

There are important features in other versions -- such as Sharepoint Workspace and Outlook with Business Contact Manager -- but as usual, bMighty concentrates on the SMB products.

Direct download from Microsoft

Microsoft posted for download on February 27 of an update to its App-V virtualization product that is designed to work with the Windows 7 Beta.

App-V is based on the SoftGrid technology Microsoft acquired in early 2006 when it bought Softricity. App-V lets users run applications without actually installing them on a local machine. This allows companies who want to make available a single image of Office or a custom line-of-business application to multiple users by pushing it out to them without having to touch each desktop. It also enables users run applications virutally that might conflict if run simultaneously on their Windows machines.

App-V 4.5, the current release of Microsoft’s application virtualization technology that is part of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP), runs on Windows Vista and XP, but not Windows 7. The new CU1 (Cumulative Update 1) build, which Microsoft is making available on its Connect download site for existing App-V customers, runs on Windows 7, too. The CU1 build also includes a variety of fixes and udpates to App-V 4.5 that will work for Vista and XP users.

The final version of 4.5 CU1 the full MDOP package for Windows 7 will be available within 90 days of the time Windows 7 ships. Microsoft is still not saying when that fateful date will be, but Windows 7 is widely expected to be released to manufacturing in the third quarter of 2009.

In today’s blog post to the MDOP blog, Micosoft officials explained why — despite the fact that Microsoft is promising the vast majority of Vista-compatible apps will also work on Windows 7 — the 4.5 CU1 update is needed:

“As you know, we have a high bar for application compatibility between Windows Vista and Windows 7, so you might be wondering why we need an update of App-V specific to Windows 7. Application virtualization is in a small class of applications that have very deep interactions specific to a Windows release – in App-V’s case it is redirecting the registry, file-system and component calls. So as we update Windows, we will continue to require new versions of App-V.”

Speaking of the next version of App-V, Microsoft reiterated that the 4.6 release — which is still due in the first half of 2010 — will add suport for 64-bit applications. Microsoft is planning to sign up Technology Adoption Program (TAP) testers for the 4.6 build later this calendar quarter.

App-V is one of a handful of business-focused utilities that Microsoft includes in MDOP. MDOP is available for purchase only by customers who sign up for Microsoft’s Software Assurance annuity-licensing program.

IP changing automatically in 2 different ranges on Netgear router.

I use a netgear router for my wireless connection and since last 2 days i was getting a strange problem. Internet and local network stopped working on all the computers that were connected with my netgear router. I tried to find out a solution on Google but ended up with no useful result.

Finally I decided to reset my router to factory default setting and then I reconfigured it and it worked great after that. It’s not tough at all but then also let me explain it in short.
Here are the steps.

Disconnect your router from you main network but make sure you have power running on your router.
Near power cable you will find a small button inside metal plate, press it for 30 seconds or more using a pen or any other pointed device, it will restart your router that means all the light will go off and on.
After restart of router all of the settings that you configured are gone and router is set as default factory setting.
Connect your laptop desktop with any of its LAN port using a Parallel LAN cable.
Set your computer to get IP from DHCP.
Your computer will get an IP in range of 192.168.1.*, in most cases you will receive IP as 192.168.1.2.
When you received IP on your computer open any browser preferably Firefox.
Type http://192.168.1.1 and press enter.
It will ask you for username and password.
Give username as admin and password as password.
Now configure all the setting as you have done earlier.
If you are not familiar with settings what you need to do you can drop me an email I will try to assist you for solution of your problem.

Precaution that you should take care before doing this

Do it only if you are familiar with router setting else you might end up with a down wireless network.
Make sure you right all the things on a paper before resetting router to default factory setting.
Information that you should note down is setting of your ISP, your local network setting that you gave in your router, wireless key and passphrase. Your local and regional settings.
Make sure you take a backup of your router so you can use that router backup whenever needed
Hope it helped you if you find any problem feel free to send me an email on my mail id

Big files can not copy on USB drive

Some time people call me or mail me and ask me that they are not able to copy a bigger file from their computer to their USB hard drive and I do have a two simplest solution for them either you are not logged in as administrator user or your USB drive is formatted as FAT 32 and in most of the cases both the thing they find correct.

First thing you should check whether your USB hard drives partition is NTFS or FAT32. If its partitioned as FAT32 then you can convert the FAT partition in NTFS without any problem using a simple command as bellow.

convert drivename: /fs:ntfs

If this command doesn’t work for you then I would recommend you to contact your USB drive support centre so they can assist you for this. The other way to get the partition is that you format the drive as NTFS but that could make a loss of one click backup and other functionality of your USB Hard drive

If this is not the case then there is second thing that’s stopping you to copy that bigger file in your USB drive that you are not logged in as administrator user. If you are not logged in as administrator user then it would not allow you to copy a bigger file so first enable administrator user and then copy the data using that administrator account.

By Default in Vista and Windows XP administrator account remain disable you need to enable them before logging in. Here is process for enabling administrator user in xp and vista.

1) Write click on my computer and click on manage.
2) Find local users and group->users and then find the administrator user.
3) right click on user go to it properties and deselect Account it disabled checkbox.
4) Now set the password of administrator user and now you are ready to login as administrator user.

For login press ctrl+alt+del it will give you classic login screen give user name as administrator and password and login.

I hope it was useful for you and you enjoyed it

Yesterday someone asked me to reformat his laptop.

I said ok I will do just give the driver CD of the Laptop but the reply that I got was not good for me. He said he doesn’t have the driver CD and worst thing was that I didn’t have the option to say no.

I thought it’s OK I will get the drivers from HCL website and will install it but when I searched for the driver on HCL InfoSystems website, I found it’s of no use, there were nothing like download driver on their website. After this I had no option other then Google

After some times goggling I found a link that solved my purpose partly. This link was from HCL InfoSystems but not on any domain. It’s an IP that contains all the drivers.

So for any kind of HCL Laptop and desktop driver you need to visit this url.

http://203.90.122.162:8080/examples/jsp/download/pon_index.jsp
After visiting this url select your device laptop or desktop then wait for some time, it wi fetch all the available desktop or laptop drivers. Once you are done with your model number click on go and in few second it will take you to your desired driver page.

Now you can download the driver but some time you may find that download is too slow weather you have a 8mbps connection. So if it’s taking too much time to download that particular driver you have an alternate option. Get the driver name and version number from HCL driver page and download it separately using Google. I did so for sound driver of above laptop.
I hope it was use full for you

Time complexity of algorithm

If you feel like reading this post slowly and carefully, it will describe what this notation _really_ means.

All functions have some kind of behavior as n grows towards infinity. For example, if f(n) = 1/n, then as n grows towards infinity, f(n) gets closer and closer to zero. Whereas if f(n) = n*n, then as n grows towards infinity, f(n) grows too.

Functions can grow at different speeds. If two functions are equal, then they obviously grow at the same speed. But wait, there's more! Two functions are deemed to grow at the same speed if they're separated by a constant multiple! For example, if f(n) = n*n and g(n) = 3*n*n, then f and g are deemed to grow at the same pace, because g(n) = 3*f(n), so they are only a constant multiple apart. That is, g(n) / f(n) = 3, as n grows arbitrarily large.

But consider the scenario where f(n) = n * n, and g(n) = n. Then what is the behavior of f(n) and g(n) as n grows arbitrarily large? Well, f(n) / g(n) = (n * n) / (n). Which simplifies to f(n) / g(n) = n. Which means that as n grows large, f(n) = n * g(n). What does this mean? f and g are in this case not separated by a constant multiple. The multiple between f and g grows larger and larger as time progresses, without stopping. We say that "f grows faster than g" when this happens. Or "g grows slower than f". Just try some sample values of n: Try 10, 100, and 1000. First, f(10) / g(10) = 100 / 10 = 10. f(100) / g(100) = 10000 / 100 = 100. f(1000) / g(1000) = 1000000 / 1000 = 1000. We can easily see, hopefully, that the ratio between f and g is not constant.

Now consider the scenario where f(n) = 2 * n * n + 1, and g(n) = n * n. In this case, our functions have the ratio f(n) / g(n) = (2 * n * n + 1) / (n * n). What is the value of this ratio as n grows towards infinity? The answer is 2. Let's simplify the expression:

(2 * n * n + 1) / (n * n) =
(2 * n * n) / (n * n) + 1 / (n * n) =
2 + 1 / (n * n).

So f(n) / g(n) = 2 + 1 / (n * n).

So as n grows large, the term 1 / (n * n) gets arbitrarily (or rediculously) small. As n grows large, then, the value of (2 + 1 / n * n) gets closer and closer to 2.

We could plug in some values -- let's try 10, 100, and 1000 again.

f(10) / g(10) = (2 * 10 * 10 + 1) / (10 * 10) = 201 / 100 = 2.01
f(100) / g(100) = (2 * 100 * 100 + 1) / (100 * 100) = 20001 / 10000 = 2.0001
f(1000) / g(1000) = (2 * 1000 * 1000 + 1) / (1000 * 1000) = 2000001 / 1000000 = 2.0000001.

So the ratio between these two functions approaches a constant value as n grows large. Hence, f and g are said to grow at the same pace.

In comparing the growth rates of functions, we have these rules:

1. If f(n) / g(n) grows out of control, getting larger and larger as n gets larger, then f is said to grow faster than g.
2. If f(n) / g(n) settles towards some constant positive value, then f is said to grow at the same pace as g.
3. If f(n) / g(n) gets closer and closer to zero, then this means that its reciprocal, g(n) / f(n), is growing out of control, so g is said to grow faster than f. (Or f is said to grow slower than g.)

Now on to big O notation!

Big O notation actually refers to an entire _set_ of functions. The notation O(expression) represents the entire set of functions that grow slower than or at the same pace as expression. For example, O(n^2) represents the entire set of functions that grow slower than or at the same pace as n^2.

In other words, if g(n) = n, then since n grows slower than n^2, it follows that g lies in the set O(n^2). Likewise, if h(n) = 2 * n * n + 1, then since h grows at the same pace as n^2, it follows that h lies in the set O(n^2).

It's also true that h lies in the set O(n^3), because h grows slower than n^3. (Assuming the leading term is positive, quadratic functions always grow slower than cubic polynomials, which always grow slower than fourth-degree polynomials, which always grow slower than fifth-degree polynomials, and so on.)

Because O(expression) represents all the functions that grow _slower_ than or equal to expression, it is used to represent upper bounds.

The other notations refer to different sets of functions. For example, o(expression) represents all the functions that grow slower than expression (and not at the same speed.) f(n) = n^2 + n - 1 lies in the set O(n^2), but it doesn't lie in o(n^2). g(n) = n lies in both.

Theta(expression) represents all the functions that grow at the same rate as expression.

Omega(expression) represents all the functions that grow faster than or equal to expression.

In computer programs, we are of course interested in how much time it takes programs to run, and these forms of notation are useful for representing that, so that's why we use them. When you say an algorithm runs in O(expression) time, you're just saying that the algorithm's runtime is no worse than some multiple of expression. When you use Theta, you're saying that the algorithm's runtime is some multiple of expression. And Omega is used to say that the amount of time an algorithm takes to run grows at a rate that is larger than or equal to some expression's rate of growth

Earlier I wrote about making a shortcut for XP and other Windows version that you can get here. In windows 7 they gave a very good feature that is assigning a shortcut key for any application. Using this feature you can assign a shortcut key combination to any application for opening it with least effort and shortest time.

If I talk about myself I have assigned shortcut key ctrl+alt+o for outlook ctrl+alt+n for notepad and many other key combinations for multiple regular used application. Assigning key combination is as simple as using any application by mouse.

Here is short procedure for that.

1) Click on start--> all programs -->application right click on application shortcut and click on properties.

Folder and file name including drive is turning blue

One of my very friends called me and told me he is getting this issue in his computer.

He find that files and folder in his computer in C drive are turning blue and he is suspicious about virus is a reason for this. He told me he find same issue once before also and he ended up with loss of document and complete pc Formatting but he is getting this problem again.

I assured him that there is no virus in his commuter and it’s a simple functionality of Windows XP. This functionality compress old file and folder and turn them in blue.

For solution of this problem here is a solution.

1) rite click on drive that is turning blue and click on properties

2) It will open a window as bellow

3) In above image you can See that check box at compress drive to save disk space is checked.
4) Remove that check box and click on apply and it will ask you to apply the changes on drive only or drive plus folder subfolder and files also.

5) Make sure to click on apply changes to drive, subfolder and files.

It will take some time to convert and uncompress all the files and folder and then you will not have problem of files and folder name turning blue.

I hope it was useful for you

I installed windows 7 on my desktop few days back and it’s running smoothly but it has one problem as well. While working screen of my windows 7machine start flickering by it and when I click on any of the application it stop flickering.

I have few other Windows 7 Machines in my office and I never received this problem from any of Windows 7 User but yesterday one Windows 7 User came to me and complained me that his computer screen suddenly starts flickering and that it again stop in some time.

I said I do have same problem and give me couple of minute to find the solution. I searched on net but found no easy way to get rid of this problem. I assumed it as problem of Display driver so I thought to check update my windows 7 computer and when I checked I found in optional update it had 2 drivers on it, first was for my Samsung Sync Monitor and other one was display driver for my Intel DQ965 Mother board.

I installed these updates restarted my computer and after that I have not received annoying screen flickering problem again even for once.

I applied same changes for my other team member also who complained me for screen flickering and it worked well.

So if you have problem of Random Screen Flickering in Windows 7 you don’t need to worry about any thing. Go to windows update setting check for update go to optional component find display driver update for your display and install it.

After that you will not have this problem again.

I have tested it on different machines and it worked fine for me.

If you find any issue in this or if you find it not working please do let me know on my mail. guddu.dreamsatt@gmail.com I would love to assist you for solving this issue.

I hope it was informative and solved your problem
